Washington Government Capitol

Washington is the capital of the United Stated and it is at the same time one of the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the whole world. Millions of individuals from all over the world and who visit the United States would stop for at least one day in Washington. Washington tourism is one of the most developed in the country and people here can learn more about the culture and history of the United States as we know it today simply by visiting Washington D.C. One of the centerpieces in the Washington tours and Washington museums is the Capitol, the house of the government. The Capitol has been built in 1793 and its history has been quite troubled. Along the time it had been burned and then rebuilt and it is now the focal point of the government’s legislative branch.

The Capitol is the central part of the Capitol Campus which includes six principal congressional office buildings and three libraries of congress buildings. The campus and its buildings have been built on the Capitol Hill, starting in the 19th century and ended a century later. The Capitol is at the same time an important part of the Washington museums as it is not only used by the Congress but it is also a museum of American art and history. There are an estimated number of about 5 million visitors who come and visit the Capitol each year.

The building has four floors and a basement. The Chambers of the House of Representatives are to be found on the second floor together with the Senate. At the third floor the visitors may visit various galleries that provide a sight over the proceedings of the House and the Senate when the Congress is in session. The last floor and the basement are occupied by offices, workshops and other support areas.
