Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States and as such is one of the most visited places in America. There are an estimated number of more than 5 million tourists coming from all over the world just to see the place where America is being governed from. Washington tourism has certainly evolved at a quite fast speed and in time various Washington tourist attractions have been available for those willing to see this part of the world. Some of the main tourist attractions are of course the governmental buildings that have been here for centuries and which have an important symbolism. But the Washington tourist should not only be informed about the tourist attractions in the area, but also in other important subjects such as safety. It is important that every Washington tourist knows what to do and what to expect in terms of safety when visiting Washington D.C.Washington D.C., as any other big city can boast of greatly reduced crime of different types, including more and less serious. The northwest and southwest parts of the city however, those that are most popular for tourists as they host most museums, shopping and hotels as well as restaurants, are popular in the city for their safety. Some specialists believe that the high level of safety in these parts of Washington D.C. are partially a result of the many agencies that are located there including the local police, FBI, CIA, NSA, Capitol Police and so on. This does not however mean that the usual precautions should be disregarded. Washington tourists should secure their purses or wallets and try avoiding walking in less populated areas during the late hours of the night. At the same time, the touristic sections are known to be safe, in particular at night, but one should be careful walking to the Capitol Hill or in the Downtown at night as these areas are known to be less safe. Anyhow, in case something happens, one should dial 911 and they will get the help they need.
