1. Does Washington Township recycle?

Washington Township participates in the Mercer County Recycling Program. Yellow and green recycling buckets are to be put at curbside every other Wednesday. Residents of Foxmoor, Wyndham and the Mobile Home Park must contact their Association regarding recycling cans.

2. What is Recyclable?

Glass, aluminum and plastic are recycled in Mercer County through the use of the yellow recycling bucket. The green bucket is for paper and cardboard. Batteries can also be recycled by placing them in a plastic zip-lock type bag putting the green battery label(available at the Municipal Building or Library) on the outside of the bag. This can then be placed conspicuously on top of your recyclable. There are drop off places for batteries at the Municipal Building , Robbinsville Hardware and the Hamilton Ecological Facility. Do not recycle ceramic glass, pottery, drinking glasses, window or mirror glass, flower pots, yogurt/ butter tubs, aluminum pie plates, foil or storm doors, or aerosol cans. Also carbon, waxed, thermal fax, and tissue paper, paper towels and plates, frozen foods and pizza boxes and Styrofoam cannot be recycled. Plastic shopping bags are not to be recycled at curbside; you may recycle these bags at grocery and discount stores.

3. When is my Trash Collected?

Washington Township utilizes the services of Waste Management of Central NJ for the purpose of trash removal. Residents of townhomes, with the exception of Sharon Mews, are not covered by the township removal. Trash is picked up once a week throughout the township for all other residents.

4. What about the removal of Bulky Items?

White Goods, such as stoves, washing machines, etc. are picked up the last Wednesday of each month. To schedule a pickup, please call 259-7082, ext. 110. Items that are not scheduled will not be picked up. Items such as air conditioners and refrigerators must be tagged by a certified technician to be freon-free before a pickup can be scheduled.

5. What if I have branches, leaves and grass clippings?

There is an ordinance within Washington Township that stipulates the pick up of vegetative materials. The schedule for the pick up of branches is the last full week of each month April through October. Branches must be bundled and placed at curbside by 7am on Monday of the scheduled week and may be picked up any day during this week. Branches may be no more than 6' in length and 6" in pile of bundled branches must be no more than 4' in height and 15' in width. Leaves are picked during months of November and December only. Grass clippings are picked up by the Mercer County Improvment every Wednesday, during the spring and summer season. To find out when this pick up begins, please call 259-7082, ext. 1 1 0. Grass clippings must be placed at curbside by 7am in open containers and bags only.

6. How do I obtain recycling buckets?

8. What are some rules and suggestions for installing a burglar alarm?

1. All burglar and fire alarms must be registered
2. All alarms must be designed to shut audible off after 15 minutes
3. Failure to register alarm is subject to fine
4. Any false alarm after the fourth alarm is subject to fine
5. Copy of ordinance available at Township Clerk's Office
6. All violations require court appearance and are subject to a minimum fine of $100.00.

Suggestions to Prevent False Alarms:

1. Be sure you know how to properly operate system
2. If others such as cleaning personnel, children, etc. are arriving after alarm has been set, be sure that they also know how to properly turn off alarm or have a security pass code.
3. Establish a procedure with your alarm company to call the residence or business first before calling the police and have a password set up.  If this is established, it should be understood that a delay in police response will offer in a real emergency situation.

Always remember that when an alarm is received the police will respond regardless of any additional calls received.  This is for your protection.
